Adrian Cannon is the Rural Partner at Tayler & Fletcher Ltd in the North Cotswolds. His role covers a wide range of rural consultancy and land agency work, including land sales, valuations, business management and consultancy. He enjoys working closely with his clients, providing honest, straightforward and practical advice.
Adrian has extensive experience in grant funding for farms and estates, along with a strong understanding of Defra and the Rural Payments Agency. His knowledge has been built through direct involvement in the transition of schemes from IACS to the Single Payment Scheme, the Basic Payment Scheme, and current agri-environmental schemes, including Countryside Stewardship and Environmental Stewardship. His work also includes landlord and tenant matters, compensation work, and running the largest hay and straw auction in the country.
Although Adrian came from a non-agricultural background, he developed his expertise through practical farming experience, progressing from farmworker to Farm and Estate Manager at Great Tew Estate, where he won Farmers Weekly Farm Manager of the Year in 2006. In 2008, he joined Strutt & Parker in Salisbury as a Farm Consultant before joining Tayler & Fletcher in 2011, where he soon became a Partner.
Adrian holds a BSc in Agricultural Science from Nottingham University and an MSc in Rural Estate and Land Management from Harper Adams. He is a Fellow of RICS and a qualified Valuer, a Fellow of the Central Association of Valuers, where he sits on the Machinery Costings Committee, and a Fellow Adviser of the Society of Agriculture. He has also served as Chair and Treasurer of the former British Institute of Agricultural Consultants. In recognition of his contribution to the farming industry, he is an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Society. More recently, he became a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association, supporting his expert witness work. He is also an alumnus of the Windsor Leadership course, which he found invaluable in his role as Partner.
Adrian is married to Nicola, Professor of Agriculture at the Royal Agricultural University, and has three grown-up children. He enjoys travelling and walking with his family around the world. In his spare time, he has served as Secretary of the Burford and District Farming Club for over seven years.
